High School

Not to go all book-wormy Queen Nerd on you here, but I absolutely loved this passage and had to share. Nanci Kincaid is a fabulous author with a Southern twang that I adore, and reading this totally reminded me why I am so happy being married, getting older, and certainly and unfailingly done with high school.

"High School"
There, some children grew too fast and got too big,and others didn't grow at all and seemed to shrink until they became almost invisible. Some voices changed and some stayed the same. Some kids could carry a tune and knew all the words to the hot songs, and others never could, never knew. Some kids danced just walking down the hall, some couldn't ever really dance no matter how much they practiced in front of the mirror. Some kids had the right clothes to wear, and some - even if they could afford it - didn't. Skin broke out, hearts broke open, lockers were broken into, heads got busted, kids got busted. Lies got told and the truth got told too - and both were terrifying. The damage done, extensive and everlasting. There were always kids who were not chosen, not invited, not included, not even noticed. Kids lost their way, their gym shoes, their lunch money, lost their religion, lost their virginity, lost hope, and lost their minds.
Everything happened.
