RIP

ROME -- Luciano Pavarotti, whose vibrant high C's and ebullient showmanship made him the most beloved and celebrated tenor since Caruso and one of the few opera singers to win crossover fame as a popular superstar, died Thursday. He was 71.

I looooove holidays! Baby C and I spent all day, and by that I do mean ALL DAY, loungin' around in our P.J.'s and being generally worthless. IT WAS WONDERFUL. The Baby-Daddy was off saving the world, so me and the kiddo had the house to ourselves. We slept late, (7:30--wo0-h00! Hey we're normally up at 6am...), watched cartoons, and played in the floor. Good times. I felt like the bebe' spent most of the weekend feeling kind of green, so it was good to have a day with him being his normal rambunctious self.

And by the way--I have resoved to be a better housewife. (Stop that snickering immiediately.) After finding myself a bit lacking in my domestic diva skills, (okay, so it wasn't really all of my own volition-- my hubby nags at me a lot and I have spent an embarassing amount of time this weekend watching home decorating shows on HGTV), I made myself promise to do better. And now that all of you know this, you are obligated to keep me accountable. A simple email every day or so--"Meggie, it's 7pm, do you know where your dust rag is?" will suffice. I've tried really hard this afternoon to keep the debris to a minimum and genererally pick up after myself a bit more. I've done two whole loads of laundry from beginning to end, and am getting ready to start my third. I also printed off loads of healthy recipes from KraftFoods.com, (see it over there on my 'favorite websites' list?), and even made one last night for dinner. It was a Cheesy Ham and Broccoli bake, and we had sweet corn on the cob and Mac N' Cheese on the side. I must say that the hubby was quite honestly beside himself. I don't think I've actually made a whole meal, (not counting Home Bakes or frozen pizzas) since before the little tyke was born. Yay me! Sticking with it is going to be the hard part--it's really easy to do this stuff on the weekends and days when I'm off work. It's a different story during the workweek, when all I want to do after I get the bebe' off to Dreamland is curl up in my chair and read....

Floor Time

He's infatuated w/ bubble gum--plus, he's trying really hard to stand up on his own. Sorry it's sideways--stop complaining and just cock your head over! :)

A Day at the Park

After the events of the last couple days, and Bebe' C's impressive demonstration of his stomach pyrotechnics, I thought we might take a day to rest.....then again, maybe not. :) Since he was feeling okay, we decided to keep our plans to meet up with my Mom and Nanny for a picnic lunch. Lil' C still wasn't quite up to par, but you could tell he felt much better. Mom and Nanny brought my nephew, and we all had a grand time. It's so funny how much my nephew and my son are so like my brother and I. My brother was super, SUPER shy, and of course, as those who know me can attest, shy is about the last word on the planet one would use to describe me. Watching Lil' C and Lil' K today was like seeing a re-run. My son is as outgoing as my nephew is quiet. They are quite the opposites. But, we broke through Lil' K's shell and I think we all had all had a lot of fun. Of course as soon as we got home, the Baby Daddy did a quick change into his camo--this IS Opening Weekend for Bow Hunting you know... If you remember, we've had some pretty good bucks showing up on our Trail Cam out in KC's field, so he's been pretty pumped for this day to get here. He should actually be here any minute, it's pretty dark outside...

UPDATE: I have a dead buck in my garage. He's a pretty nice one...ten points I think. Still, not the biggest one we've seen on the Trail Cam. But that's what you get w/ KC...he's pretty impatient, and a bit trigger happy. He just walked in the door and wanted me to come out and look at it. Honestly, I'm kinda sad about it....I'd much rather look at them in pictures than dead on my garage floor. But I guess that's what I get for marrying a hunter huh? He better not EVEN be thinking I'm gonna eat that crap.....OR allow it to be put in my freezer. Blech.

Tummy Bug

Being sick really stinks. I now know that your child being sick stinks far worse. First of all, you feel sorry as heck for them, almost physically hurting yourself--and then, you usually end up with some sort of bodily fluid all over your person. I have now experienced both of these. Thursday night, I went in to check on Caden. As I shuffled into the room, I remember thinking, "Why does it smell like bad milk in here??". I soon found the answer. When I leaned in to check on my little man, I discovered the source of the stench. He had soaked himself, the pillows, the blankets, and pretty much everything else within a 12 inch radius. No kidding. AND THE KID IS STILL ASLEEP. So of course I immediately yell for the hubby. I pick up the bebe' who proceeds to whimper and upchuck down my chest. Mind you, I have dealt with spit-up, and lots of it. But I have NEVER dealt with hard-core throwing up. His little body would border on convulsing as I tried to comfort him. I finally got him and myself cleaned up and in new jammies, and was rocking him back to sleep, when he started in on the whimpering. You got it--tossin' cookies, take two. Yet another set of PJ's later, I finally get him down for the night. I knew we had truly had a bad go of it when I unearthed a piece of half-digested Puff Cereal from behind my ear in the shower. Ugh. Friday morning he wakes up acting just fine, takes a whole bottle, and we're off to Granny's for the day. She calls me around 3pm to let me know he has hardly eaten all day, and has only taken 6 oz of formula. PLUS--he's had diarrhea twice. Yay. This crap always happens at 3 o'clock on the Friday before a long weekend. So I call the Pediatrician who lets me know its either an ear infection or a stomach bug, but with our symptoms, more than likely a stomach bug. She says to put him on Pedialyte for the rest of the weekend, ($6.00 per TINY bottle), and use the BRAT diet, (Bananas, Rice cereal, Applesauce, and Toast). Lucky for me, he really likes all of the above. So, we've done really well today. I can definitely tell he's not up to his normal energy level, but he's on the mend! We have survived our first tummy bug. I hope the next one doesn't come anytime soon--
